In continuation of her commitment towards empowering women in the state for economic freedom, the wife of Akwa Ibom state Governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, Friday, rolled out financial grants to over 500 rural women in the state.

 

At the third phase of the scheme which took place at the Multi-purpose Hall, Judiciary Headquarters Uyo, the FEYReP boss said the empowerment is done out of her passion to impact women positively especially at the grassroots.

She added that the eight benefitting local government areas are the last in first round of the scheme which has gone round all the 31 Local Government Areas, stating that the gesture would be done at intervals so as to accommodate all women in the state.

"I have been doing this since inception of the administration, and this is the last eight local government areas to benefit. I charge you to be committed to your business knowing that when the zeal is right, you will grow and become successful." Mrs. Emmanuel said.

She advised the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the funds received by investing it wisely; pointing out that she would not relent in her efforts towards empowering women in the state.

Mrs. Emmanuel who also took time to appreciate the governor for supporting her and keeping to his promise of empowering women, prayed that God will bless and reward his labour of love.

Earlier, In her remarks, Coordinator of Family Empowerment and Youth Re-orientation Path-Initiative (FEYReP), Mrs. Ime Inyang said FEYReP as an organization is passionate about injecting life into the rural sector in order to build a virile economy.

She further stated that FEYReP has within three years empowered thousands through multi-faceted skills acquisition programmes and also charged the beneficiaries to invest the money wisely.

In their separate goodwill messages, the commissioner for Women Affairs and Social welfare Dr. Glory Edet, Chairman State Technical Education Board, Dr. Charity Ido, the PDP woman leader, Mrs. Meme Akpabio and the coordinator of Uyo Senatorial District Women Forum, Dr. Ekaette Okon appreciated God for the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel, noting that the governor has within three years touched the lives of women across the state positively.

They as well thanked the governor’s wife for initiating the programme which they said is targeted at giving lifeline to the rural women.

In a vote of thanks, a beneficiary Mrs. Margeret Ekenam who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries expressed her appreciation to the Governor and wife for providing them with a lifeline, promising to use the funds judiciously.
