In the spirit of the season, Akwa Ibom state governor’s wife, Her Excellency Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel recently visited inmates of QIC Leprosy Hospital, Ekpene Obom in Etinan LGA, where she showered love and gift items on them.

Mrs. Emmanuel said her visit was to enable her celebrate the season which is all about love with them, stressing that though they are confined within a particular place, they are not rejected by the society.

"I am here to celebrate the risen Christ with you all; Jesus died for us all and rose on the third day to give us power over Satan. My coming here is to give you hope, peace and joy; you have not been forgotten and we will do everything to make life easy and comfortable to you all." Mrs. Emmanuel said.

The governor’s wife further noted that Jesus Christ died for all irrespective of colour or blight and advised that no one should discriminate those with disabilities.

She promised with immediate effect to provide monthly stipends for the various families within the hospital, medical out-reach to help meet their medical needs and provide the much needed security within the hospital.

The first lady specially thanked the CMD of the hospital Dr. Afia Afia and the entire staff of the institution for their commitment and love towards the inmates, praying that God will reward their labour of love.

Also speaking, the Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong thanked the governor’s wife for her motherly disposition through her pet-project FEYReP over the years and said that her humane show of love for the needy is unprecedented.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Afia Afia thanked the governor’s wife for her consistent and continued show of love for the inmates of the hospital, praying God to shower His blessings upon her.

He enumerated the various challenges confronting the hospital to include, insecurity, renovation of dilapidated buildings, absorption of missions casual workers who have served for over 25 years and construction of internal roads within the hospital, calling on government to please come to their aide.

Similarly, a US based citizen of the state and the founder of Hope Foundation, Ibom Umondak while speaking said she has been supporting the hospital for some years now, and specially thanked Mrs. Emmanuel for touching lives at the hospital with her benevolence.

Goodwill messages from the stakeholders of Etinan local government area all poured encomiums on the governor’s wife for her support and benevolence towards the hospital, and prayed for greater grace to do more in the years ahead.

In appreciation, the President  National Association of People Affected by Hensen Disease, Obong Emem Itam thanked the governor’s wife for the visit and donations to the hospital, and pleaded with the government to ask INEC to provide them with their voters’ card so they could vote in the 2019 general election.

Special rendition and cultural displays by the inmates of the hospital thrilled the guest during the event.
