In keeping to her promise of empowering rural women in the state to be self reliant, the wife of Akwa Ibom state Governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel Thursday, empowered 625 women from 12 Local Government Areas across the Three Senatorial District with financial aid for businesses.

 

Speaking during the first phase of the empowerment scheme which took place at the Multi-purpose Hall, Judiciary Headquarters Uyo, the wife of the State Chief Executive said the empowerment was borne out of her utmost desire to put smiles on the faces of the rural women in the state, saying the gesture is targeted at empowering rural families positively.

Mrs. Emanuel advised the beneficiaries to make ample use of the funds received by investing it wisely; pointing out that the empowerment will be done at regular intervals so as to reach-out to all across the state.

Mrs. Emmanuel who also took time to appreciate the governor for supporting her and keeping to his promise of empowering women, prayed that God will bless and reward his labour of love.

Earlier, In her remarks, Coordinator of Family Empowerment and Youth Re-orientation Path-Initiative (FEYReP), Mrs. Ime Inyang said FEYReP as an organization is passionate about injecting life into the rural sector in order to build a virile economy.

She further stated that FEYReP has within one year empowered thousands through multi-faceted skills acquisition programmes and also charged the beneficiaries to invest the money wisely.

In their goodwill messages, the commissioner for Women Affairs and Social welfare Dr. Glory Edet, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development and Cooperative, Mrs. Ekemini Umoh appreciated God for the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel, noting that the governor has within few months touched the lives of women across the state positively.

They as well thanked the governor’s wife for initiating the programme which they said is targeted at giving lifeline to the rural women.

A cross section of the beneficiaries who spoke after the event expressed their appreciation to the Governor and wife for providing them with a lifeline, promising to use the funds judiciously.
