FEYReP Free Surgical Care

Partners:              Family Empowerment and Youth Re-orientation Programme (FEYReP), Pro Health Africa International and Akwa Ibom                                Asssociation, USA (AKISAN)

Project Scope: General Surgeries. Gynecological Surgeries. Dental Surgeries. General Treatment for women, men and children. Nutritional                                       Education.

Objectives:  To assist people especially the indigent ones from the three (3) senatorial districts of Akwa Ibom State obtain free surgical services.  


The program began simultaneously across the three (3) Senatorial Districts in the following designated hospitals:

Uyo Senatorial District: Imaobong Missionary Medical Outreach Centre – Ibesikpo Asutan L.G.A.

Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District: Ikot Ekpene General Hospital - Ikot Ekpene L.G.A.

Eket Senatoral District: Ikot  Abasi General Hospital - Ikot  Abasi L.G.A.

The flag off by the Founder of FEYReP- Her Excellency, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel was done on the 15th (Ikot Ekpene General Hospital). 16th (Ikot Abasi General Hospital). 17th (Imaobong Medical Outreach).

She said her work as the founder of FEYReP was premised on the need to add value and raise the quality of lives of the people especially the indigent ones in our midst. She reiterated that since she assumed office as the First Lady, she had observed that so many people could not maximise their productivity because of the burdens of illnesses. Therefore she decided to embark on health programs that would impact on the well-being of people thereby empowering them to achieve optimal productivity both economically and socially.

The partnership with Pro-health and AKISAN was therefore in line one of her vision of empowering families through free medical programmes.

The Executive Director of Pro health International Africa, Dr. Iko Ibanga  applauded the efforts of Her Excellency in reaching out to the masses of Akwa Ibom people through her people centred programs and promised to continue to collaborate with FEYReP for the good of the people.

The Coordinator of FEYReP, Mrs Ime Inyang opined that FEYReP had always partnered with the community to provide succour to people with varied needs. Some of these included families with multiple births and indigent students

Over 150 personnel, doctors and other medical experts from Nigeria and the diaspora were deployed to the various hospitals for the program.

The program was capped with a Thank-You dinner by Her Excellency for the team at the Government Banquet Hall.

Project Outcome:


  • That there were a significant number of persons who were predisposed to high blood pressure and diabetics.
  • That there was a high incidence of cataract occurrence.
  • That young boys and adult men were significantly prone to hyenas due to poor nutrition and farming.
  • That HIV and AIDS were discovered to be on the increase.
