Human Rights and Justice For All

Despite the global outrage against gender-based violence and its attendant physical, emotional and psychological consequences on the survivors, their families and the larger community, Gender-based violence is still endemic in Nigeria and other parts of the world. The consequences of GBV is far-reaching especially sexual harassment.

Child Abandonment

FEYReP’s interventions in Akwa Ibom State also included rescuing children abandoned at infancy and left to perish by want-away parents. FEYReP’s efforts saw these children rescued from the perils they were thrown to, to being rehabilitated and given a new lease of life. The majority of these children are sheltered, raised and trained at the Divine Children’s Home, Atan Offot Uyo.

Rape, Sexual Harasment, And Gender Based Violence

In 2020, in the wake of a worldwide lockdown that had families stay together for extended periods, there was an upshoot in the cases of rape and sexual crimes, gender based violence. FEYReP was at the very forefront of fighting this monster menace as its advocacy to an end in these kinds of crimes led to the domestication of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act which was passed into Law in Akwa Ibom State in the same year 2020. FEYReP’s advocacy extended beyond just pushing for a law. FEYReP directly tackled the crime by facilitating the arrest and arraignment of perpetrators, rescue and rehabilitation of victims, provision of legal counsel and psychological counsel. FEYReP aso led a statewide town hall meetings to the ten (10) Federal Constituencies in the state to engage the people at all levels and get them on board the push to end the social menace of rape and related violent crimes. FEYReP also, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund set up a Gender-Based Violence Preventive Centre in the state with the primary aim to address the behemoth elements.

UNFPA And WHARC Partnerships

FEYReP also has embarked on life touching projects to individuals and communities and some of these projects are done in partnerships with international organizations such as the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the sexual and reproductive health agency of the United Nations (UN). and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.
