In an effort to eradicate poverty, malnutrition and end hunger in the rural communities, FEYReP had launched its FOOD FOR ALL project in support of the sustainable development goals with the aim of ensuring an end to global poverty and hunger by the year 2030. FEYReP’s FOOD FOR ALL was necessitated by the rising prices of staple foods like garri (a processed variant of cassava) that became so dire that an average family could hardly afford.
Therefore in 2016, FEYReP began its Food For All project as a quick intervention to mitigate the rise in prices of food with the view to eliminating a possible food crisis in the state. This prompt initiative saw to the planting of over 240,000 units of improved cassava stems of the TMS-419 varieties and over 20 millions corn seedlings on 80 hectares of land in Ikono offi and Nsie communities in Okobo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. This singular intervention generated employment for 61 youths and 97 rural women
FEYReP also undertook planting and development of a 17-hectare model farm in Onna Local Govt Area. FEYReP also identified commercial opportunities in our palm oil and seafood natural resources and therefore invested in its processing chain. Apart from the garri processing factories built by FEYReP in Orukanam Ibiono and Itu LGAs, FEYReP also built seafood processing factories in Ibeno and Mbo LGAs while the palm oil processing factories were built in Etim Ekpo and Orukanam LGAs respectively. These processing factories has greatly simplified the production process of these products, helps to limit post-harvest loses and ultimately increase the income of farmers and improve socio-economic activities of the communities involved.
