The cruel incest occurrence of a 40 years old father towards his 14 year old daughter
The survivor
In Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Aya Road, lived a 14 years old girl, a student of Goretti Secondary School, Ikot Ekpene, who had a horrific experience in life since she was 9 years old. Being the 2nd daughter of her father, a 40 years old man from Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area. She had been living with her father, step mother, and step siblings over the years. Her mother, who was her father’s acquaintance in the past, had left her with her father, since she could not care for her needs, she later got married to another man.
How it all began
In the course of her staying with her father and father’s new wife and their children, her father turned his lusts in her direction and forcibly had his way with her when she was only just 9 years old. This harrowing and painful experience continued for her for many years, without the step – mom knowing nor suspecting. The frequency at which these incidences occurred to repeated events. each week recorded at least 3 incidences. According to the victim, her father made her drink a concentrated salt and water solution after each intercourse to as a pregnancy prevention method.
The traumatic impact and intervention
Years passed and this traumatic experience had greatly affected her psychologically so much that her academic performance had drastically reduced and she became withdrawn from other students in her class. According to her, her father had threatened her never to inform anybody, making sure on his part that he never allowed her socialize with children in the neighborhood.
Due to her secluded attitude and poor performance at school, her class teacher, who had observed her over time decided to find out what could be responsible. It was in that instance that she disclosed her ordeal with her father but requested for high confidentiality because he promised to kill her if he knows that she had disclosed his abuse to her to anyone.
What compelled her to confess was a talk about modesty which was done in her school by some visitors. At this point, the teacher reported the case to the principal who worked closely with a couple of other passionate academic staff to bring her to FEYReP for help.
Journey to Justice
The survivor visited FEYReP on the 7th of November, 2024 and informed us of her ordeals including the fact that her step mother who has been an angelic mother to her had undergone series of physical abuse from her father but she refused to leave the home because she cannot leave her children with her husband.
On the 15th of November, 2024, at 5am, FEYReP team with some assigned law enforcement officers visited the survivor’s home to apprehend her father. The team finally arrested the perpetrator at 8am, at Aya Road in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, when he returned from the farm.
On arrival at the police station, the perpetrator denied the allegation but rather said that she was abused by the community members and fortunately, he claims he intercepted some cases. These denials were made repeatedly in front of his daughter but she insisted on her confession, that he repeatedly raped her even when she begged him not to. After the arrest of her father, FEYReP had taken the survivor to a safe shelter for safety away from threats from her community and her father’s associates.
Precisely the 18th of November, 3 days after his arrest and denials, FEYReP was invited to the police station where the perpetrator (her father) knelt down before his daughter and begged for forgiveness. Admitting to all the accusations, he said he did those out of ignorance.
He is currently in prison custody awaiting trial.
A Multiple Abuse Story:
Mother, 4 daughters ALL abused by their step father and biological father.
Mother of 4 daughters, 2 of them (15yrs and 13yrs), by her late husband and 2 (5yrs and 2yrs), by her current husband, cried to FEYReP office on the 19th of November, 2024, complaining that her husband who commenced the defiling of her 2 older daughters since the ages of 9 and now had started defiling his biological daughters, 2yrs and 5yrs.
Their Ordeal:
Mother informed the FEYReP GBV team, that when she earlier found out he had been defiling her older daughters, she reported him to his family members and their faith (church), he promised to stop the act only to realize the abuse was still on going and he also defiles his own children now. Despite the death threats from her husband if she reports him to any external person, she had to make a tough decision to fight for the sanity of her daughters or remain in an abusive acclaimed marriage. The courageous woman, in pains, decided her daughters deserve a better life and justice.
Intervention
After she cried out, FEYReP informed her of a plan and she approved of it. FEYReP swung into action by visiting the man’s house in the company of some assigned law enforcement officers, who arrested the perpetrator, age; 40yrs, in the early hours of the morning; 26th November 2024. He was taken to Ikot Akpan Abia police station and was charged to court on the 9th of December 2024. He is currently in prison awaiting trial.
His 39 years old wife who is a fashion designer, in tears, exclaimed that although she is not earning much to care for her 4 girls but she cannot watch the future of her 4 lovely daughters jeopardized by a man who claims to be a father but a wolf in sheep clothing. She promises to do all she can to care for her 4 daughters and FEYReP is out to obtain justice for her children.
All 4 children had been taken to the hospital and are currently receiving care and treatment for infections.
The courageous story of a 12 years old female who was raped by a neighbor (her father’s friend)
The little girl survivor, age; 12yrs, hails from Ikono LGA of Akwa Ibom State. The first child of 3 children to a single father.
On the 4th of August 2024 at about 10am (during the long holiday), the survivor was caring for her sibling in the absence of her father when her father’s friend, (the perpetrator), age 37, visited their home. When he noticed they were alone, he invited them to his house while awaiting their fathers return, but the landlady, who resides in the same compound, insisted they stay in their home but he forcefully took the survivor to his house. He thereafter forced the survivor into his room and raped her. When her father returned from the day’s activity, she reported the incident to him. The survivor’s father reported the incident to the community leader but nothing much was done due to the porous state of the community, which availed the perpetrator escape route from facing community’s questioning. The victims father later reported to FEYReP office on the 4th of September, 2024. The perpetrator who had run away from the village, had by this time returned in the belief that in time the issue had been forgotten and he had gotten away with his misdeed. Unknown to him the victims father had not forgotten neither had he given up in the quest for justice for his young daughter, as he brought the victim to FEYReP in company of her grandmother to make their report.
Actions taken
The survivor was immediately taken for medical services at the SARC center, Ikot Ekpene where it was verified that her hymen has been broken and she was infected with STI. Medical report was obtained, the case was later taken to the law enforcement unit, Ikot Akpan Abia police station, where officers were assigned for the arrest of the perpetrator. The perpetrator was apprehended in October 2024 and sent behind bars as the case was taken to magistrate court.
On the 4th of November, he was sent to prison and he is currently awaiting his trail.
