Capacity Building Training for GBV and Related Cases First Responders and Volunteers

On Friday, 5th September 2025, the Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Path-Initiative (FEYReP) as part of its campaign to end Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Akwa Ibom State, held a training session for GBV Volunteers and community first responders from all thirty-one (31) Local Government Areas of the state. The event which held at FEYReP Hall, 15 Ben Udo Street, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, is part of the collaboration between FEYReP and the Nigeria Women’s Trust Fund (NWTF) on ending GBV in Akwa Ibom State.

The event opened with a welcome address from the FEYReP Dr. Idorenyin Ekanem who welcomed all the volunteers and expressed gratitude to them to for accepting the call to partner with FEYReP/NWTF to get take the advocacy against GBV to the nooks and crannies of Akwa Ibom State. She emphasised that the session was designed not just to see them as partners enlightening the rural communities on the dangers of GBV, but also to equip the volunteers and first responders on the basic knowledge relating with GBV related issues, how to engage and how to address and how to report.

The event was partitioned into different sections led by FEYReP resource persons Mrs, Aniebietabasi Akpan and Pastor Idorenyin Attih with an open interactive session to allow for strategizing, note comparisons and networking among the volunteers and first responders.

Mrs Aniebietabasi Akpan lectured on Gender-Based Violence forms and patterns, identification, evidence documentation, reportage and support for victims and survivors, while Pastor Attih discussed the Violence Against Persons Persons (VAPP) Law 2015 amended and domesticated to Akwa Ibom State in 2020. This session witnessed an in depth excavation and expose on the coverage and provisions of the VAPP LAW.
