FEYReP’s January 2026 GBV Cases Report

In the continued effort to address Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Akwa Ibom State, the Foundation for Youth Empowerment and Reproductive Health (FEYReP) remains actively engaged in prevention, coordination, response, and survivor-centered support services. This report provides a consolidated overview of GBV cases recorded and managed by FEYReP for the month of January 2026. The data reflects documented incidents during the reporting period and offers evidence-based insights into the realities faced by women, children, and other vulnerable persons across communities.

A total of 11 GBV cases were recorded in January, spanning multiple forms of violence and abuse. Physical assault constituted three (3) cases, with survivors experiencing varying degrees of physical harm. This highlights the continued prevalence of domestic and community-based physical violence.

Sexual violence remains a grave concern. Rape accounted for three (3) reported cases, all managed with strict confidentiality and promptly referred for medical, legal, and psychosocial support services. Of these cases, one is currently proceeding to court, while two have been referred to the Ministry of Justice for further legal action.

Emotional and psychological abuse, often characterized by intimidation, coercion, and mental distress, accounted for one (1) case, underscoring the less visible yet deeply harmful forms of GBV.

Other documented forms of abuse included violation of property rights (1 case) and denial of resources or economic support (2 cases). These figures demonstrate the diverse and evolving nature of GBV, extending beyond physical harm to include economic, social, and rights-based violations.

All reported cases were managed through FEYReP’s structured GBV response and referral framework. Survivors received comprehensive support through coordinated engagement with health facilities, law enforcement agencies, legal aid partners, psychosocial service providers, community focal persons, and FEYReP’s internal case management system. Services provided included medical care, counselling, legal assistance, safety planning, and follow-up support to ensure survivor protection and recovery.

As of January 2026, eight (8) litigated GBV cases were ongoing across various courts in Akwa Ibom State.
