"The Right To Rise". A Project for the Physically Challenged to Reduce Inequality

FEYReP advocates for integration and inclusion of persons living with disability in every aspect of our political, social, economic and cultural life. In Akwa Ibom, we have taken steps to ensure persons living with disability embrace the aquisition of skills that would make them economically self reliant, after which they are provided with trade-specific equipment, grants and aids.

So far, FEYReP has trained and empowered 697 persons living with disability by providing them with business grants, training on capacity building and the provision of need-based/trade-specific starter packs which include but not limited to; Sewing machines, Generators, Barbing equipment, Braille machines, Catering equipment and Business grants. FEYReP has also advocated for and facilitated the employment of some persons living with disability who are qualified into the state civil service workforce.

At a recent event organized by FEYReP to empower the physically challenged community in the state, the Founder of FEYReP, Dr (Mrs) Martha Emmanuel, who fondly referred to them as “special people” was full of encouraging words for them. She advised them to be positive minded as there was ability in every disability. Dr Martha further charged them to harness these talents and gifts rather than engage in self-pity. She also counseled beneficiaries at the event to use the empowerment packages to better their families and the society at large, stressing that she will be monitoring their progress from time to time.
