The assistant coordinator of FEYReP, Lady Aniebietabasi Akpan who spoke at the event, gave an expose on the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law, which provides an enabling legal framework for prosecution of all perpetrators of rape, domestic abuse, physical and emotional abuse etc. She also pointed out that the sensitization campaign to markets and churches in the state has become expedient to ensure that the gospel against GBV gets to every nook and cranny of the state so as to arm all citizens with adequate knowledge of how to tackle the menace and end the ignorance which has so far enabled the social vice to continue thriving.

She warned against community leaders settling or handling rape cases urging that such cases should be handed over to law enforcement agencies. She also added that there is no justification for rape or GBV offences.
Lady Aniebietabasi further added that FEYReP in partnership with NWTF and other social justice organisations and civil societies are committed to ending gender based violence in the state, she equally encouraged parents of the survivors not to give in to intimidation by culprits, but to report cases in FEYReP office at plot 22 Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo or call the phone numbers on the shared flyers or report to the nearest police station for the law to take its full course.

In response, the market chairman, some stakeholders, traders and youths who were at hand during the campaign pledged their unalloyed support to the fight against GBV in their communities.
