The Family Empowerment and Youth Re-orientation Path Initiative (FEYReP) remains actively engaged in prevention, coordination, response, and survivor-centered support services. This report provides a consolidated overview of GBV cases recorded and managed by FEYReP for the month of February 2026. The data reflects documented incidents during the reporting period and offers evidence-based insights into the realities faced by women, children, and other vulnerable persons across communities.
A total of 5 GBV cases were recorded in February, spanning multiple forms of violence and abuse. Physical assault constituted two (2) cases, with survivors experiencing varying degrees of physical harm. This highlights the continued prevalence of domestic and community-based physical violence.
Sexual violence remains a grave concern. Rape accounted for one (1) reported case, managed with strict confidentiality and promptly referred for medical, legal, and psychosocial support services.
Other documented forms of abuse included child abduction which account for one (1) case and denial of resources or economic support (1 case). These figures demonstrate the diverse and evolving nature of GBV, extending beyond physical harm to include economic, social, and rights-based violations.
On February 25, 2026, the High Court in Uyo convicted and sentenced school proprietor Bassey Okon Effiong to 10 years imprisonment for rape in Suit No. HU/66C/2025.
The abuse, which began in 2018 when the survivor was eight years old, continued until 2022 and was reported in 2024, triggering FEYReP’s intervention.
FEYReP provided comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and legal support, leading to the arrest, prosecution, and successful conviction of the offender.
All reported cases were managed through FEYReP’s structured GBV response and referral framework. Survivors received comprehensive support through coordinated engagement with health facilities, law enforcement agencies, legal aid partners, psychosocial service providers, community focal persons, and FEYReP’s internal case management system. Services provided included medical care, counselling, legal assistance, safety planning, and follow-up support to ensure survivor protection and recovery.
